Dancing Dolphins - for older children prior to going to school

Putting more emphasis on ICT, the children can leave the nursery more fully prepared to embark on their school life.

DANCING DOLPHINS

Dancing Dolphins caters for children aged 3-5 years with three qualified members of staff in the room, one of whom is the room leader.

The staff ratio is 1:8. Dancing Dolphins is slightly more structured than the rest of the nursery in order for us to help prepare the children in getting ready for school.

Children have the opportunities to play indoors and outdoors. Play creates many development and learning opportunities for young children and it is through play that they develop intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally.

ICT is part of the children's everyday life and learning. Equipment such as battery operated toys like the bee-bot, torches and remote control cars, equipment with functioning buttons such as walkie-talkies and the digital camera are provided to support this area of development. Dancing Dolphins also has two computers that are accessible to all children with a wide range of software.

There is also a role play corner, dressing up clothes, puppets and musical instruments all there for your child to enjoy and experience. Maths and writing areas are provided for children to explore and experience. Construction toys are also available as are puzzles and a lovely quiet reading area with lots of books.

Children also have the opportunity to develop their physical skills with weekly sport sessions taking place at a small additional charge. The FA trained coaches help progression in team play, physical exercise, confidence, eyeball co-ordination, balance, decision-making and much more.

Weekly French lessons are held in Dancing Dolphins. Lessons last for half an hour and are theme based so that your child will never have to repeat the same topic twice. Most importantly the lessons are fun and children learn French through games, songs, finger mimes, stories, puppet stories and many more activities. This activity is provided at no extra cost.

Each child will be offered a communication book that goes home daily. The book has information about your child's day including activities, sleep, food and toileting. It also includes information about your child's progressions and personal achievement. We welcome you to add your notes/feedback for staff.
